Their Greatest Catastrophes

Overview

Their Greatest Catastrophes --- 1995

Track 1 recorded at Zeppo's Studio, Herne, 16 January 1982. Tracks 2, 10, 14, 19 (coda) recorded at rehearsal studio, Dortmund, between March to May 1981. Tracks 3-9, 11-13, 15-19 recorded at rehearsal studio, Dortmund, 18-22 November 1981 ("Now!" album sessions). Tracks 20-24 recorded live at "Werkstatt", Essen, 18 September 1981. Track 25 recorded live at "Begegnungszentrum Nord", Dortmund, 30 August 1980 - overdubs (gtr and voc) recorded March 1981. Track 1 "I Think Of You" was recorded for the 7" E.P. Sampler "Hör mal zu mein Freund, ja?!" However, this is the unreleased first mix that could not be used at that time due to crackling noises from the console. So the vinyl master had to be taken from a later mix that was done without the band's approval. Unfortunately some details of the first mix were missing, so the vinyl version was always considered inferior. The order of the CD tracks 2-19 is identical with the first cassette album "Now!" by Outrage (self-published limited edition demo-tape 1981), except track 17 "No Fear", which was deleted from the album for technical reasons and which replaces the "Now!" version of "I Think Of You" here. Tracks 2, 10 and 14 were taken from previous sessions because they were considered superior to later recordings for the "Now!" album. Track 19 "God Save The Punx" ends with an added coda taken from the first demo recorded in spring 1981. "Hör mal zu mein Freund, ja?!" was an exclamation from an argument between two punks in the front row. The audience had picked up this phrase and repeated it rhythmically until the band spontaneously picked it up and improvised it to a song (track 23) - to the obvious delight of the audience. The E.P. was later named after this incident. The recordings were professionally restored and remastered from the original master tapes in 1995. Only 5 to 10 CD-R copies were made and passed on to band members and fans of "Outrage" and its successor "Die Zinnförster".
