Warner Classics

Profile

Multinational label. Label Code: LC 2822 / LC 02822 The [l=Warner Classics] imprint originated from the old [l=Warner Classics International] division of the [l=Warner Music Group], before reorganization within the group made it part of [l=Warner Music UK Ltd.]. For a few years in the late 2000s, [l=Warner Classics] and [l=Warner Jazz] were merged to form [l=Warner Classics & Jazz]. In 2012, Universal Music Group (UMG) bought [l=EMI]. Approval of the merger by the EU (in 2013) required that the combined company divest itself “of one third of its total operations to other companies with a proven track record in the music industry.” (Wikipedia) In 2014 Warner Classics absorbed [l=EMI Classics] and [l=Virgin Classics], as well as reviving the [l=Erato] label. Warner Classics moved its headquarters to Paris as part of the Classics division reorganization under [l= Parlophone Records Ltd.]. While Warner Music Group owns the former EMI and Virgin Classics catalogs, UMG retains the EMI and Virgin trademarks.
