Harmony Disc Record

Profile

Chicago-based U.S. mail order label, established in 1907. Harmony Disc Records could only be played on phonographs with an outsized, 9/16-inch spindle-hole. The phonographs were given away for free as long as the customer bought a certain number of Harmony Disc Records. All releases were reissues of [l=Columbia] recordings. By 1912 the label name has changed to "Harmony Record", the company name to Harmony Talking Machine Co., and the address to 618 S. Dearborn St. in Chicago (basically next-door to a similar label, [l=United Record] at 608 S. Dearborn St.). In 1916, the label merged with other, similar labels to form the Consolidated Talking Machine Co. of Chicago.
