2XX Studios

2XX FM is the oldest community radio station in Australia, starting in 1976, and located in the Australian capital Canberra, ACT. 2XX Studios was located at the 2XX Community Radio (1008 AM) station's original location, in the same building as the [l1296855], Kingsley Street, Acton (near the ANU - Australian National University). Studio C continued to be used as a multitrack recording studio available for bookings until 2000 (remaining in the original building even after the radio station itself, including the broadcast studios, Studio A and Studio B, had moved location to the Griffin Centre, on the corner of Bunda and Genge streets in Civic - across the street from it's current location in the CBD since 2005). Many local bands and artists also performed (and were recorded during) live to air broadcasts from Studio C (even during 1999 after the station itself had moved location), especially during 1994-1999, and those recordings were usually remixed and often used as demos (with re-recorded vocals). Studio C equipment was also used for 2XX live radio broadcasts elsewhere (usually involving musical performances), including at the [l365781] (e.g., Yakfest '94 and '95), Civic Pool (Splash Out [for International Women's Day] 1995-1999) and other venues. In late 1986, the 4-Track recording machine was replaced by an analogue 8-Track (Tascam 58) Reel-To-Reel machine. The early 1990s saw a complete studio revamp and many technical improvements that included a newer (second-hand) Tascam mixing desk. By 1993, a Panasonic DAT machine had been installed. From 1994 onwards, two ADAT machines were occasionally hired to enable 16-Track digital recording. In 1995 the analogue 8-Track recorder was supplemented with a Tascam DA-88 digital 8-Track machine (thus providing 15-Track recording when synchronized). The analogue mixing desk (Tascam 16-8-2 channels) was replaced by a digital console (Yamaha O2R) in 1996.
