Koezy

Originally from the northwest of Madagascar, in the Boeny region, group Koezy draws its inspiration from traditional music. The members bring up to date the different ways of singing such as antsa, a sort of praise sung during ceremonies, or even “jijy” an oratorical art which is considered – in Madagascar at least – as the ancestor of rap. But they also explore other rhythms, notably “baoejy”, a northern dance accompanied by the accordion, or “kabosy” and “goma”, in other words, “salegy”. “Koezy” means “blessing” or “respect”.
