The first variety (pop) orchestra in USSR, founded in 1945. Its musical director until 1952 was V. N. Knushevitsky = [a1030978]. The orchestra collaborated with famous Soviet musicians (pop and academic), and was often recorded on records without branding as Оркестр под управлением В. Н. Кнушевицкого and [a5745929]. Since 1957 Эстрадно-симфонический оркестр Центрального телевидения и Всесоюзного радио = Central Television and All-Union Radio Pop Symphony Orchestra. In 1993 the orchestra was awarded the title "academic", and in 1999 the band got the name of Yu. Silantiev. Now known as [a14444000] = Yu. Silantyev Academic Large Concert Orchestra, it is a part of the Russian State Musical TV & Radio Centre.
