La Chorale Bach De Montréal

Overview

La Chorale Bach De Montréal --- 1965

The Montreal Bach Choir directed by George Little disbanded after it's last concert in April 1966. Therefore these recordings cannot be from a later time. In this same year the CBC was initiating a new form of marketing for new (and some previously-released?) releases. THIS release is among the first CBC Radio Canada International releases to use this cover design. It is the first in the Discogs catalog at this time, and "Programme 201" is the last observed using the older style: The design uses one colour on white with the letters of "canada" presented as if projected by parallel searchlights. Earlier CBC or RCI releases include a reference to their origins as "Transcriptions" from broadcast recordings. The parent company identity is [l140139] The majority of early releases 1945-1966 are cataloged under three (redundant) label identities [l51117] [l170146] [l1077901] Early CBC/RCI releases were not branded as commercial releases, but were intended for internal use (for broadcast) and international use promoting Canada's emerging identity through diplomatic and public broadcasting venues. Thus the lack of a consistent identity is due to the ambiguity of labeling present on these releases. Any one of these three streams include missing entries from the same family of releases in another stream, some duplicate releases using different label designs (from the same master release), and re-issue design formats of later eras, presented as if they were the first release, and often citing the date of first release or original recording as their date of release. My study to untangle which cover and label designs were in use at what time is ongoing. A second-stream of RCI (Quebec) releases is found at [l452711] Many other forms of CBC identities are in use at Discogs, most or all of which represent legitimate series or rebranding used by the CBC beginning in the 1980's. Entries under these labels dated prior to 1980 are most-likely mis-cataloged, but only detailed reference to crisp images or in-hand data from these releases can establish this with certainty. Contributors are invited to consider revising such submissions using other primary CBC identities. Other later label identities in formal use include: [l162136] initiated by [m1267390] Entries prior to 1980 are likely errors that should be re-associated with other CBC identities [l1077416] [l473654]
