Overview
Ain't That Loving You Baby / Birds --- 1966
ESP Disc catalog number, subsidiary Cia label. From Bill Durso via Facebook "I'm singing lead along with Sam Reed harmonizing. The drummer is Warren "Smitty" Smith who also co-produced. Lamont Duncan, from New Britain played Fender bass. No keyboard, I played on the live track and one overdub. The horns are: Bob DePalma/tenor sax - Don Depalma/ trumpet - John Chupas/trumpet - Gil Nelson/alto sax and Bjarne Rostaing/baritone sax. It was recorded at RLA studios in New York. The place was where all the ESP stuff was recorded - Archie Shepp, Sam Rivers, The Fugs..., as a matter of fact they (Fugs) were block-booking the studio in the daytime and we had it at night. The sessions always overlapped so there was much fun. The engineer on all of ESP's stuff was always Dick Alderson, who co-produced "Birds". Bernard Stollman (head of ESP) created the subsidiary "Cia" for R&B and other projects. Actually, "Cia" was created for 'World music', I guess Bernard thought that's what we were."
