On July 26, 2009 the results of the international residence for sound artists «Kaliningrad Sound Art Camp» were presented in the Insterburg Castle (Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad region). The art residence is a sequel to the projects that have been implemented by the Kaliningrad Branch of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts since 2006: «SoundArtLab» and «Acoustic Diagnostics» and which present topical strategies in sound art and contemporary music. «Kaliningrad Sound Art Camp» brought together 14 European artists coming from various artistic backgrounds and sharing different experiences in order to create a collective art work in the informal environment of a camp which is located in a far-away reserve area in the Kaliningrad region. The primary goal of the residence was the exchange of experience and artistic communication between the participants. The one-week program of the camp included lectures, workshops, field expeditions and discussions. Each guest artist has not only created and designed unique technologies and instruments, but also makes a sheer use of all the techniques of work with sound and multimedia. In the framework of the final presentation in the Insterburg Castle those who came were offered audio and video installations, objects and performances which reflect a wide range of trends in contemporary experimental music and sound art. Curators: Danil Akimov, Julia Bardoun The project was implemented by the Kaliningrad Branch of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Nordic Cultural Foundation and the Ford Foundation (Moscow).
