Overview
1925-1926 --- 1984
Full artist credit on front cover: Eva Taylor And Clarence Williams With His Blue Five, Blue Seven, Morocco Five, Stompers Taken from recording released on Okeh 78's Recorded New York, December 15, 1925 (A1, A2), January 4, 1926 (A3, A4), c. January 22, 1926 (A5 to A7), April 7, 1926 (A8, A9), c. August 6, 1926 (B1, B2), October 5, 1926 (B3, B4), November 16, 1926 (B5, B6), and December 10, 1926 (B7, B8) Uncertain personnel: A8, A9: Don Redman has been named as the clarinetist heard on these sides but aurally this is not so. B1, B2: The instrumentation is cornet, trombone, clarinet, piano and banjo. Eva Taylor is reported to have said that Clarence Williams at some time used personnel from the Jimmy Wade band and it has been suggested that the men on this session could be Jimmy Wade, William Dover, Clifford King, Clarence Williams and Stan Wilson respectively. However, other opinion is that the cornetist is "Big Charlie Thomas" and the trombonist Charlie Irvis. B3, B4: The instrumentation is clarinet/tenor, alto/soprano, violin, piano and drums. Apart from Clarence Williams (piano), all is conjecture. Eddie South (vln) and Stan Wilson (bjo) have been suggested, as have Arnett Nelson (clt/ts) and Clifford King (alto/sop). B5, B6: An alto sax is heard, which may be played by Coleman Hawkins. A clarinet is also present, which does not appear to be Hawkins.
