Chiky(u)u
Overview
Chiky(u)u --- 1997
Mastered at Country Masters. Track 4 recorded using only the sounds of The Ground Stones. Track 5 produced from a field recording made in Minō National Park, Osaka. Track 9 generated by attaching electrodes to the bank of the Arakawa River. From the sleevenotes: "This release is the first part of a triptych... Chiky(u)u, Scatter, Decay." Chikyuu is Japanese for Mother Earth. All material used in the sound pieces is gathered from the earth (stones/water etc) or activity resulting from movement in the earth (earthquakes etc). Track -1 is hidden before the first track on the CD. It is accessed by holding rewind at the start of Track 1. After track 10, there follows another 87 untitled index points of silence, lasting 5-20secs each, the idea being that when the CD is played on shuffle, the blank tracks focus you on your own enviroment as a contrast to the recorded enviroments on tracks 1-10. Packaged in a soft plastic gatefold sleeve with color inserts.
