Overview
Den Haag (NL), 09/19/2024, 11.30 am --- 2024-10-22
I live at Paviljoensgracht 28 in The Hague, directly across from a historically significant site. In 1942, during the Nazi occupation, thousands of Jewish residents of The Hague were arrested and deported to concentration camps. One of the key locations in this tragic history was the 'Joodsche Tehuis' at Paviljoensgracht 27a, which served as a gathering point for Jews before they were sent to Westerbork. Today, life goes on without many realising the weight of the events that took place here over 80 years ago. By recording the sounds from my window, I want to draw attention to this history. I moved from Tilburg to The Hague in 2022, and after learning about my neighbourhood’s story, I feel a deep connection to these events. This recording is a way to reflect on what happened and remind listeners of the silence that often surrounds historical trauma in everyday spaces. Recorder: Tascam DR-05
