Dreams Come True --- undefined
boomkat.com flac version. Boomkat Product Review: When Judee Sill died from a drug overdose in 1979 she left behind a fleeting musical legacy which amounted to two blistering LP's and an unreleased archive of material intended for her third album. Dreams Come True brings together these eight unheard songs (essentially mixed and finished by Jim O'Rourke) and a second disc of rarities and home demos, including one of Sill's earliest songs, "Dead Time Bummer Blues," and an early version of "Things are Lookin' Up," entitled "Sunny Side Up Luck," performed by Sill on clavinet in 1973. With a sound that is deceptively breezy, Sill takes elements of West-coast pop, folk and Americana then blends it into an unfeasibly catchy selection of songs which in no way belie their 40+ years of storage. Opening with the insistent piano and staccato rhythms of 'That's the Spirit', Sill sings "please lead me in the direction of my own resurrection" over some fantastically realised time-signature changes which sees the song resembling something from a Hollywood musical. Similarly, both 'Things Are Looking Up' and 'Last Resort' are locomotive slices of pure pop gold, whilst 'Til Dreams Come True' reveal an emotionally bruised predilection that invites you to project your own outlook onto the piano etched solipsism. Elsewhere, a flurry of studio demos show just how consummately realised many of these pieces were at inception, whilst the 'Lost Songs' disc flits between shimmering pop ('Sunny Side Up Luck') and honky-tonk experimentalism ('Dead Time Bummer Blues') with enviably ease.
