Kat Music For Kat People vol. IV: The Longest Fe-Line --- 2020-05-01
The state of alternative guitar pop is better in 2020 than I think people realize. But at the same time, the popularity of such music continues to wane. Scenes are getting smaller, record sales are down. But no one picks up a guitar to get rich any more. These songs represent nothing but pure passion from artists from seven different countires (if you count England and Scotland as separate countries, which we do.) At the same time, some of these songs are just absolutely sonically disparate from each other. Hopefully the flow of the tracklist makes this less obvious than a random shuffle would. The whole point of this compilation was to highlight contemporary music we love, while trying to provide a new blanket genre for what's happening with these kids of sounds. I'm no lexicographer, and I've struggled to figure out what to call these collected sounds. Tim Chandler writing in Corvallis , Oregon in the 1990s hit up on the phrase "buzz pop," which comes closer than any other available terms. But it doesn't quite fit. This goes beyond buzz pop. This is bigger than that. This is an unstoppable force of hooks and riffs. This is..... KAT MUSIC!!
