Punk'd For The Kids In Sri Lanka --- 2005

"On behalf of the bands and sponsors I would like to thanks you for buying "Punk'd For The Kids In Sri Lanka" CD compilation. All of the net proceeds from the CD and associated events will go to projects in Sri Lanka (through Oxfam Community Aid Abroad) as a part of the relief effort following the tsunami on 26 December 2004. Sri Lanka's northern, eastern, and southern coasts were badly affected by the tsunami which, in some areas, caused devastation as far as 2km inland. Sadly, over 38000 people are confirmed dead, 15000 were injured, and more than 5600 are still missing, presumed dead. Oxfam Community Aid Abroad is working in the region providing food, clean water, and shelter. Oxfam has already sent sixty 1000 litre water tanks to Sri Lanka and is planning urgent water distribution. Additional water wanks, pumps, and taps for drinking water systems on their way. Other items on their way include: - Hygiene kits and latrine slabs for emergency latrines. - 25000 food packs containing rice, flour, dhal, fish, sugar, and cereal to address the food needs of people who have lost everything. - A further 10000 hygiene packs containing other essential items such as soap, sanitary towels, candles, and matches are being put together. - Temporary shelter for 10000 families. - Sleeping mas and plastic sheeting to thousands of homeless families. The need is great and Oxfam will continue to send of this nature as well as assess the situation and provide other items as needed. This emergency will have a long term impact and Oxfam is in this for the long haul. 90% of each donation goes directly to the relief program. The remainder is spent on administration and fundraising costs (such as paid advertising). While the current focus is on delivering emergency aid to affected areas, Oxfam is committed to working with communities in the region for years to come, and is beginning to help them rebuild their communities and livelihoods. Once again, thanks for contributing to this great cause, and enjoy listening to some of Adelaide's finest punk bands who have rallied together for the kids of Sri Lanka! Kath"
