One Hundred Aspects Of The Moon
Overview
One Hundred Aspects Of The Moon --- 2000-02-00
This piece was inspired by "One Hundred Aspects Of The Moon", a series of woodblock prints by the last master of Japanese Ukiyoe, Yoshitoshi. Fifteen of his one hundred scenes were excerpted in various ways to bring out different aspects of the images. Although each piece has its own musical style, they are all connected to create a world whose energy is released by the same kind of culture clash that made Yoshitoshi's work so distinctive. Commissioned by Roulette with funds provided by the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust. Recorded and mixed at Avatar, NYC, March & September 1999. Live recording at Roulette, NYC, December 1989. Live recording mixed at Frank Booth, Brooklyn, November 1999. Track 16 recorded at Speed of Sound, Brooklyn, April 1999. Mastered at Foothill Digital, NYC.
