From Eye To Ear

Overview

From Eye To Ear --- undefined

Much of the compositional material for this recording was derived from particular objects in a museum. Museums strike me as distinctively musical places. They are a type of music archive where my interaction with each object creates a new, temporary sonic life. For me, the most important part of this process of translating visual stimuli into aural ideas is not about the linking of sources; I don't expect anyone to hear what I did. Instead, it is the highly subjective interpretation from one medium to another that makes this so fun, and ultimately more about a process of possibility. The search for potential in the composition process is especially important, since musical composition for me requires developing musical scaffolding for interactive improvisation. I want this recording to open up a kind of potential, providing sound to spark the possibility of creating something new and meaningful. This album would not have been possible without Keith, Qasim, Sam, and Chris, all phenomenal musicians whose creative energy was a privilege to work with. Special thanks go to Steven and Lyz for their creativity and hard work. Most of all, I'd like to thank Hana for her tireless support and ceaseless inspiration. released September 7, 2005 Niko Higgins - Alto Saxophone Keith Witty - Bass Qasim Naqvi - Drums Sam Hoyt - Trumpet Chris Washburne - Trombone All tracks by Niko Higgins Recorded January 21 & February 19, 2005 in Brooklyn NY Cover design by Lyz Ward.
