Forever Peaking From Above (Phil K Tribute Mix 2) --- 2021-12-01

Artwork: Jay Marley (MarleyDidIt!) Full length DJ mixes available for dl with digital purchase. Tribute mix 2 length: 2:07:33 Tracks 2-2, 2-4, 2-14, 2-20, & 2-21 not available unmixed As part of the “Forever Peaking From Above” series of releases raising money for Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio, Lobotomy Records is proud to presenttwo exclusive DJ mixes compiled and mixed by Jon Keating. These mixes feature standout music from Phil K’s career, including original productions, remixes, selections from the Zero Tolerance back catalogue, and tracks that were regularly heard in his DJ sets andincluded in official mix compilations. As a special bonus, the tracks on these mixes are also available as unmixed, DJ-friendly tunes, giving a new generation of DJs access to some of the most iconic music from the history of the Australian underground scene. Mix two is all about the progressive breaks sound that Phil helped pioneer alongside his Melbourne contemporaries, catapulting Australia into the global electronic music scene as a serious force when it comes to underground sounds. Unsurprisingly, his own original productions and remixes feature heavily in this mix, comprising over half the tracklist. The more moody, chuggy end of the spectrum characterises the first third of the mix, moving through deep basslines, washed-out atmospherics, and the occasional melancholic. “Cloudbrake”, Phil’s collaboration with Habersham (which was included in InTheMix’s Top Australian Dance Tracks of All Time feature), begins the darker, more menacing portion of the mix, which of course peaks with the original mix of “Furball.” The final stretch showcases Phil’s undeniable skills when it comes to studio wizardry and sound design, featuring tracks which seamlessly combine beautiful melodic leads with warped effects, chopped-up vocals, and crunchy beats. Blake Potter’s brand new remix of “Furball” provides a fitting end to the mix, feeling like an amalgamation of all the various moods and aesthetics of the progressive breaks sound rolled into one. Andrew Wowk A collection of timeless music that Phil K produced, remixed, included on his DJ mixes, or released on his Zero Tolerance label. Due to Bandcamp's file size limitations, a download link to the full mix will be made available on the December 1st release date.
