Recorded, mixed and mastered at Sing Sing Studios, Melbourne, Australia. Additional recording done at The Shed, Killarney; Pearl Shell Studios, Broome; Enormodome Studios, Melbourne; and Troy Cassar-Daley's Tarampa Studio, Brisbane. Journey features special guest appearances by Troy Cassar-Daley, Paul Kelly, David Bridie, Shane Howard and The Pigram Brothers. Initial copies of the album contain a bonus DVD of ‘Liyarn Ngarn’, the film of the journey that inspired the album.
