Overview
The Some Assembly Required Mashups Compilation, Disc Three --- 2005
Disc Three (of 3) of mix CD given away to listeners who supported the radio program's fundraiser, in 2005. Liner notes are the same as Disc Two: "From Wikipedia: Bastard Pop is a musical genre which, in its purest form, consists of the combination (usually by digital means) of the instrumental from one song with the acapella from another. Typically, the music and vocals belong to completely different genres. At their best, Bastard Pop songs strive for musical epiphanies that add up to considerably more than the sum of their parts... Though the term “Bastard Pop” first became popular in 2001, the practice of assembling new songs from purloined elements of other tracks stretches back at least to the ‘50s, and, if one extends the definition beyond the realm of pop, precursors can be found in Musique concrete, as well as the classical practice of (re-)arranging traditional folk material and the jazz tradition of reinterpreting standards."
