Mozart [Incidental Music]

Overview

Mozart [Incidental Music] --- 2022-05-00

SUPPÉ, F. von: Mozart [Incidental Music] (Janáček Philharmonic, Salvi) Universally famous for his glorious overtures Light Cavalry and Poet and Peasant (naxos 8.553935), Franz von Suppé was one of the greatest exponents of the golden Age of Viennese Operetta. But he was also a master of incidental music for popular plays, one of which is Mozart – an example of Künstler-Lebensbild (‘life portrait of an artist’). Suppé’s music subtly accompanies the stage action as the story of the composition of Mozart’s music unfolds, offering a potpourri of Mozart’s works served up with Suppé’s trademark flair. Die Afrikareise presents a piquant and brilliant travelogue. ℗ & © 2022 Naxos Rights (Europe) Ltd. Made in Germany. Comes in a standard-size jewel case with a clear tray. 8pp stapled booklet has notes in English. Playing time 57:41. Recorded 3-7 May 2021 at The House of Culture, Ostrava, Czech Republic. World Premiere Recordings. Published by Dario Salvi; Edition: Naxos Rights International Limited. Sponsored by The Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain. Cover image: “Anton Schittenhelm as Mozart in the opera Der Schauspieldirektor” (1880) and “Franz von Suppé” (1864); photomontage by Dario Salvi, 2021.
