Overview
Interweaving --- 2022
Released in an edition of 100 hand-numbered cassettes. Program repeats on both sides. Interweaving is a score conceived of as a relational activity to participate in together, regardless of time and distance. It has been inspired by a chance meeting through a collaboration for the Athens, Greece creative arts space NGallery, facilitated by Nicoleta Chatzopoulou. Viola player Patrick Behnke and multi-flute player Lina Andonovska recorded many interpretations of the score through online video meetings and emailed recordings to each other from their respective locations of Los Angeles and Frankfurt am Main from June through August 2020. Interweaving as an activity (the score, players, and intended and unintended relationships) is an attempt to examine structures of orientation in time, through distances in space, and between people. Throughout this process, different possibilities of motion and listening to one another appear. The collaborative aspect is essential to the realization of the scores, and the worlds and timings of Behnke and Andonovska come together in this unique project. The intention of this project is to use the score as a map to traverse a melodic and improvisational path among the cardinal directions within our own spaces and to acknowledge the sonic events and interactions that transpire in those directions. Additionally the use of graphically transcribed field recordings and open windows acts toward the possibility for extending the frame of the score-map: for the outside world to come in, and the inside world of the score-map to go out.
