Overview
Uxolo --- 2005
"The 21st century has been hard for many live performers. Chiefly because Djing and digitally generated music leave little room for traditional musicians to earn a living playing live. This led to arguments amongst several artists in Kwa-Zulu Natal. To a point when in 2004 I decided to pack my car with a portable DAT , a couple of mics and Mabi Thobejane with a set of his drums and percussion instruments and head of to seek peacebetween the bickering factions by using music as a medium for negotiation. Uxolo (Peace) is the result of this mission.Coming as it does after several definitive albums like King of the Zulu guitar, Konk Man and the Madamax works with Max Lässer or Syd Kitchen, this music "the Madala-line" requires six different tunings and a delicate plucking style. Although based on divination (trance) rhythms, it weaves elements from genres as diverse as maskanda and folk onto the grooves. The lyrics are made up of old poems, chants, dream images and ancestral wisdoms." - Robert Trunz
