Retrospective

Overview

Retrospective --- 2021-08-11

On August 11th 2011, the first 'official' album for the project johnny_ripper was released online, titled 'soundtrack for a film that doesn't exist'. A concept & sound that lasted 6 years, 6 albums, 3 remix compilations & a collaborative EP; before the name was eventually changed to 'Joni Void' in 2017. Retrospective is a compilation of 19 songs / selection of early material from johnny_ripper, with fresh remasters from Amar Lal, focusing particularly on original compositions / the 'soundtrack piano' material of the first albums, creating what is essentially the most 'personal' album to date in that sense. This is the first time a johnny_ripper release is pressed on a physical format. Also offered as a Constellation Records Subscriber Exclusive on their Bandcamp site "this life took a minute to grab but when i slipped in the rap i noticed the deal was done and basically i had won so when i ran it all back, i took a minute to ask if anything i could do, would jump me right back to you young dev your on the right path just take the door at most laugh when things get quiet for you you’ll know just what u can do, be loud and let it grow up you honestly got the stuff remember that is not luck remember to say so what: - Pink Navel - So What from 'Giraffe Track' credits released August 11, 2021 all songs written & produced by Jean Néant / Joni Void formerly known as johnny_ripper from 2010 to 2016 except for Cat Soup based on/samples the short-film ‘Nekojiru-sô’ by Tatsuo Sato & Masaaki Yuasa Artwork by Masaaki Yuasa Mastering by Amar Lal at Macro
