CUTOUT (6x6)

Overview

CUTOUT (6x6) --- 2021-11-05

CUTOUT (6x6) Poems, letters, sound recordings: at once historical artifacts and personal perspectives. Streetside vantage points of London struggles in Christabel Pankhurst’s documentary audio (‘Drives’) and LKJ’s epistle (‘Junctions’). A Brooklyn world vanished, though not without a trace, in Steve Dalachinsky’s autobiographical poem (‘Avenues’). A letter with news of social uprising in Visconti’s Il Gattopardo (‘Roads’). Buried layers of cities' past, “Beneath the cobblestones, the beach!” Permuted concrete, traversed by Brion Gysin (‘Paths’); memory, speech, sound – inscribed, manipulated. Inscribed, manipulated – scratches re-animating friction. It takes more to hold it down than to buy it up (‘Carts’). –AL Double bass samples performed by AL Tuba & percussion samples performed by MW Piano samples from "mitochondriAn (for player piano)" by AL Composed structures, improvised performances. Tracks 1-5 recorded in real-time. Track 6 is a composite of three real-time recordings. Recorded in Canterbury with live audiovisual link to Edinburgh, March/April 2021 (C) 2021 ADAM LINSON / MISE-EN-SCENE (ASCAP) & MATTHEW WRIGHT (PRS)
