In The Echo: Field Recordings From Earlsfort Terrace --- 2021-09-30
An eight-track concept compilation album, "In The Echo" was curated and produced by Ross Turner. Recorded in various locations in the historic National Concert Hall building in Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin – ranging from old lecture theatres, to dis-used stairwells, to a former morgue – this record features collaborations between Irish musicians across an athletic span of musical traditions. “There are musicians from different disciplines working together,” says Turner. “A conduit runs through the collaborations – that is the environment, the surroundings in which the music was created.” He continues: “Recording within remote pockets and open spaces of the building provided a completely unique atmosphere to the performances. I understand what it means to most musicians to feel comfortable, and I also understand that a sense of something special happening is vitally important for inspiration and performance. When the balance is right, the results yield truly satisfying situations for the musician and the listener.” The results here are always intimate and engaging – by turns warm, dark, forlorn, gently humorous, and transcendent – and always possessed of a certain “first-touch” freshness always found in the most fertile collaborations. Ross Turner is a Dublin-based drummer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Turner has worked extensively with a multitude of musicians and producers, including: Lisa Hannigan, Joe Henry (Allen Toussaint, Joan Baez, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello), Aaron Dessner (The National, Taylor Swift), RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Ships, Cathy Davey, Villagers and Jape. In between working with a broad range of artists, Ross established the electronic duo I Am The Cosmos, who’s debut album, "Monochrome", garnered critical praise. Between 2014 and 2016, Turner was an artist-in-residence at the National Concert Hall, curating collaborations between with a multitude of Irish artists. Recently, he has divided his time between touring and recording with Lisa Hannigan and Villagers. credits released September 30, 2021 Alison Reynolds, saxophone (v) Kev Foran, trumpet (v) Donagh Molloy, trumpet (v) Chris Rooney, trombone (v) Ross Turner, drums (v) Brendan Jenkinson, bouzouki (vi) Crash Ensemble (viii): Aoife Ní Bhríain, violin Lisa Dowdall, viola Kate Ellis, cello Caimin Gilmore, double bass Deirdre O’Leary, clarinet Francesco Turrisi, accordion Alex Petcu, percussion Produced by Ross Turner Mixed by Brendan Jenkinson Mastered by Stephen Quinn & Seán Mac Erlaine (Naranja) Photography by Ross Turner Design by Benedict Schlepper-Connolly Recorded at the National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, between 2014 and 2016.
