Recorded 1992-1994 at Skywalker Sound, Marin County, California; The American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York; Mechanics Hall, Worcester, Massachusetts. Mastered at Soundbyte, New York, New York. Recordings of male choir and boy soprano for Night Prayers provided by Giya Kancheli Kongerei was arranged for the Throat Singers of Tuva and Kronos. Mugam Sayagi, Quartet No. 4, A Cool Wind is Blowing and Night Prayers were written for Kronos. K'VAKARAT was written for Mikhail Alexandrovich and Kronos. Mugam Sayagi was commissioned by Nora Norden. Quartet No. 4 was commissioned by Mrs. Ralph I. Dorfman, the Barbican Centre and Theatre de la Ville. K'VAKARAT was commissioned by the Wexner Center Foundation on the occasion of the dedication of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Night Prayers was commissioned by the Beigler Trust and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
