Overview

West Coast Bass --- 2011

For this release The Flying Skulls have enlisted the help of talented musicians from around the globe putting together a very accessible 'post-dubstep' album specifically for 1320 Records which spans a wide breadth of West Coast styles, aptly named 'West Coast Bass.' This ten track project, which includes songs that pay tribute to styles from Dub, Downtempo, Glitch Hop, R&B, Ambient, and yes even dubstep, is chock full of the kind of irreverent lyrics and interludes that have made The Flying Skulls favorites in the underground electronic music scene. Collaborators on the tracks are far-flung with players and MCs from the West Coast, Philly, Atlanta, the UK, Warsaw and Germany. "We wanted to put together a post-dubstep album that a lot of folks could relate to. I know people like to download banger tracks one at a time, but the really game-changing music that I've experienced has been in the form of albums." Constant throughout the release is The Skulls' sense of drum production and sound design... the tracks are held together by a love of 808 kick drums, freaky bass, Dre inspired synths, and epic breakdowns.
