Overview
_Le Bergsonisme_ (for Any Instruments, Computer, & Projections) (2003) --- 2021
live electro-acoustic, mixed-media, chamber-ensemble composition performance concert recorded at ROD Hall, California Institute of the Arts school of music on January 25, 2004 Mike Richard pre-recorded himself in 2003 reading/reciting the english translation from the entire first chapter, "Intuition As Method" , from the 1988 zone books edition of _Bergsonism_ by Gilles Deleuze [originally published in French in 1966] onto a pre-recorded backdrop recording. the text along with the pre-recorded recitation became the text-score itself. the projections Mike created using an early mac keynote application were cued live off the text-score's time indexes in the margins by an external "conductor" body facing the ensemble and projection screen, i.e. live off of the text score and pre-recording based off of the numbered indexes of the notes section at the back of the book, including some inserted images of the some philosophers cited. in sync with this external conductor/projectionist body, assembled/accumulated ensemble drones were also directed [paused and played] live by Mike on his laptop computer while he played off the text-score on an acoustic grand piano. the electro-acoustic chamber ensemble, were all in-concert, in real-time performing their instrumentation off of the densely marked photocopies of the systematically-coded text-score in real-time-sync with listening to the pre-recorded recitation. the ensemble included calarts composition and performance students. and his composition teacher/mentor, Michael Pisaro whilst Mike was attending calarts 2001-2005 for music composition, graduating with BFA degree in 2005 December. Mike Richard and Michael Pisaro symbiotically agreed after several lessons and concerts of different works of this sort by Mike [and perhaps by some others], on a sort of perhaps new speculatively-experiential term for this kind of densely-systematik, [or even sparsely-systematik!] pre-coded text-score fusion with text-reading for 'any instruments' variable ensemble combinations as a "secondary symbolic network".
