The Sound Of America

Overview

The Sound Of America --- 1970

Here is the SOUND OF AMERICA—musical impressions of the United States from coast to coast...border to border. Presented by the International Symphony, seventy-five pieces, recorded in the full dimension of surrounding stereo and augmented by the ninety-four voice choir of the Los Angeles Valley College. This original score has been written and produced in a manner designed to provide maximum listening pleasure either as delightful background music or as a guide to a “close your eyes” tour across America. Relax and listen to the sounds of teeming cities, rolling plains, majestic forests, pounding surf, and small town life...hear the excitement of American entertainment capitals, the warm mellow tones of sun-drenched vineyards, the laughter of children at play, the throb of industrial giants, and the power of a hundred waterways. Your audio “visions” will be boundless and they will add new dimensions every time you listen to the SOUND OF AMERICA. The Choral music for the record is dedicated to EXPO ’70 under the theme of PROGRESS AND HARMONY FOR MANKIND. ICN selected the ninety-four voice choir of the Los Angeles Valley College, the largest community college in the world, to perform the EXPO ’70 dedication. This portion of the record was composed, arranged and conducted by Robert V Altheuser of the college music department, which is widely known for its high instructional quality and student performance. The Orchestral music for “The Sound of America” was composed and orchestrated by Jack Cookerly and Bill Loose. The Cookerly and Loose team are well known in music circles for their compositions and orchestrations for such TV series as “Untouchables,” “Donna Reed,” “Hazel,” “Dennis the Menace,” “Naked City,” “The Real McCoys,” “My Three Sons,” and the NBC Special—“Man in Orbit,” the story of John Glenn.
