The Royal Opera House Covent Garden - The Story Of Five Seasons 1899-1919 --- 1982
A compilation of recordings by artists who appeared at Covent Garden between 1899 and 1919. Each disc represents a particular year with 5 year intervals between each disc. The artists in each case appeared at Covent Garden but not necessarily in the repertoire chosen. A lavishly illustrated 56 page booklet contains photographs and biographies of all the singers by Michael Scott. A single A3 size insert contains the track listing along with details of the original recording label, cat number & speed (not all were 78rpm - speeds vary between 71 and 82) The set was released to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the Covent Garden theatre in 1982. A "Limited Edition number" box is on the rear cover, with a stamp of the individual number. All arias sung at pitch except A3 (up a semitone), A4 (down a semitone), A5 (up to soprano key), D3 (down a semitone), F5 (down a semitone).
