Always & Forever

Overview

Always & Forever --- undefined

Throughout its history, jazz has continuosly evolved. From its roots in New Orleans, this uniquely American art form flowed up the Mississippi and throughout the nation, revealing the personalities of the cities where it took hold: Memphis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago. Then came the Big Band era, Bebop, "cool" and "hot" jazz, fusion, jazz-rock, and a host of other permutations. Whatever its leanings, the modern jazz ensemble is at heart a synthesis of the great masters who have gone before. With every performance, and in particular on this recording, The Noteables recognize the giants of the past with a collection of jazz standards. Some of the selections, like Count Basie's April In Paris and Hoagie Carmichael's Stardust, are performed just as you would have heard them 40 years ago. Others, like Frank Mantooth's arrangement of Beyond The Sea or Matt Harris' update of It Don't Mean A Thing, put old classics in new clothing. Whatever the tune, from the opening St. Louis Blues to Charlie Parker's Moose The Mooche, The Noteables bring the same drive, energy and excitement. This is our American heritage, ever changing and yet timeless. These compositions will live on, in the words of the title cut...Always and Forever.
