Paris Train
Overview
Paris Train --- 2006
From the album cover: Picture this: a trip from Paris through Marseilles onto the beachside town of Bandol where you plan to hang out in sidewalk cafés, sampling the region's renowned Vin Rosé. No TGV for you. That train is too fast. Instead, you take the local because it makes every stop along the way. For your trip, your best friend (an ex-patriot, now living in the 3rd arrondissement near the Marais) assembles a playlist for your iPod. This is that mix. This is an eclectic mélange of old-school French faves like Charles Trenet, plus contemporary recordings of gypsy-jazz inspired artists Pearl Django and Oliv' Et Ses Noyaux. From Belgium, Axelle Red is the queen of French Soul, an English-speaking Flemish woman who "found her voice" by singing in French. Three jazz artists, Peter Cincotti, Karrin Allyson and Jacky Terrason, exhibit their French flavoured chops. American-born Madeleine Peyroux sings a song originally sung by Josephine Baker. Saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, a Brit, and his American wife, vocalist Stacey Kent, add the beautiful "Jardin d'Hiver" (Winter Garden). Fans of the 2001 French movie "Amélie" will recognize "La Valise d'Amélie" by French composer Yann Tiersen. "Demain" is performed by Les Nuibans, a pair of sisters born in Bordeaux who grew up in Chad, Africa. And many will be introduced to French DJ Dimitri from Paris, who rounds out the set with his jazzy, lounge-inspired track "La Vie". Produced exclusively for Pier 1 by In One EAR, LLC, San Francisco, CA, www.n1ear.com
