Le Joola, Liaison Ziguinchor-Dakar --- 2003-01-10
Cassette-only benefit album released only in Senegal to support the project "Un Bateau Pour La Casamance". The project was launched by the Touré brothers, Youssou N'Dour, and others, to raise funds for replacement of Le Joola, a ferry boat in the Casamance area of Senegal that wrecked on September 26, 2002, and for the families of the victims. The tragedy took the lives of more than 1,800 people. Touré Kunda also performed several concert dates in support of the project. In "Joola", the first of 6 titles, Touré Kunda sings about solidarity and the need to strengthen the maritime link between Dakar and the southern region of Casamance. For the titles "Joola Bi" and "Joola Bi Héhé" many guests lent their voices for a good cause, being: Additional musicians: (vocals): Abib Kaliman M'Baye, Baay Sooley, Baay Sène, Baaba Maal, Bassirou Faty, Carlo (PBS), Dandan Diedhiou, Didier Avadi, El Hadj Amidou Kassé, Fafadi, Keyti, Magou, Moïse Tribal Jam, Myriam (Alif), N'Diaya, Numukunda (PBS), Omar Pène, Oumy (Alif), Sixu Daby J, Tatouages, Xuman (Pee Froiss), Wauz Kali, Souleymane Faye, Ismaël Lo, Wally Bodian, Thione Seck, Coumba Gawlo Seck, Mamadou Konté (Africa Féte), Babacar Sall (Editions de l'Harmattan). The other titles, intended for the next Touré Kunda album, are "Niantio" in homage to the Casamance korist Lalo Kéba Dramé, and "Léopold Sedar Senghor" dedicated to the poet president. Poems on the sinking of the "Joola", written by the poet Babacar Sall, are also recorded on this tape.
