Stendhal's Syndrome
Overview
Stendhal's Syndrome --- 2001-10-01
Experimental improvisations by competent jazz musicians and soundscape artists. Intense, creative and a little weird. This is the first Ensemble Abstract album. It leans toward upbeat, aggressive pieces. Mind blowing! Hypothesis: music can reach new and exciting levels by reducing preconceptions and allowing musicians to respond to one another rather than performing established notation. Materials: assemble competent musicians with an interest in pushing musical limits. Procedure: discuss and build a basic musical roadmap with some planned elements and hit record. Control: the control is the magnetic recordable medium to which all performances are captured. Variables: each musician is free to improvise whatever they want in response to what others are playing. Results: Ensemble Abstract featuring: Scott Steen, Veikko Lepisto, and Daniel Glass of "Royal Crown Revue" Ken Charlson of "Three On A Match" Claude Willey of "Exterior Mirror" and "Batz Without Flesh" Phillip Haut of "The Centimeters" Trevor Henthorn of "Sweat Engine" Geni of "Beat Death" Vinnie and Jacqueline Santino of "Vinnie Santino" "Stendhal's Syndrome" is the first in an ongoing series of recordings by Ensemble Abstract. Ensemble Abstract is conceptualized, directed, engineered and produced by Vinnie Santino.
