Believe... A Holiday Wish!

Overview

Believe... A Holiday Wish! --- 1994-12-00

This collection of music from Sacramento-area bands is a tribute to Northern California's talented musical community which donated its time, talent and - most important of all - its heart to this project. Believe - A Holiday Album This project was born of both hope and frustration. David Whitaker, the executive producer behind this compilation, found himself wanting to do something, anything to help fight the AIDS virus. The idea for an all-original benefit recording of holiday songs by local Sacramento bands began to take focus. "The first person I talked to was Henry Robinett," Whitaker recalls. "He said, 'Great idea. I think the whole music community will get behind it.'" And get behind it they did. When word of this project got out, David found himself listening to countless demos from artists ready to contribute. "Choosing the songs that went on here was the hardest thing to do," he says. "We had enough good material for a double CD." Taking the "a little something for everyone" approach, the final lineup covers a gamut of genres: jazz, country, rock'n'roll, folk, blues, hip-hop, techno, pop, Creole, and even a '50s-style Louis Prima rave-up. Eighteen bands, seven recording studios, numerous engineers and producers all donated free of charge their songs, facilities, talents and creativity to this effort. One hundred percent of all monies raised from the sale of these CDs and cassettes will go directly to the Sacramento AIDS Foundation. The 11-year-old foundation has the awesome task of reaching out to the estimated 5,000 people in the Sacramento area who are currently HIV positive or living with AIDS. They provide in-home nursing care, food, transportation, legal aid, emergency funds, education, and substantial emotional support. The Foundation has suffered severe funding cutbacks in recent years and depends heavily on grants and donations from the public. The AIDS epidemic is worsening daily. It's estimated that every 14 minutes a person with HIV passes the disease to another person. It is important to note teenagers currently make up the fastest group of people infected with HIV. At this year's international AIDS conference, experts announced they have no hope for a cure by the year 2000. The Sacramento AIDS foundation asks that you do the following: Do not hesitate to reach out for assistance from the Sacramento Aids Foundation or other local agencies. Do not be afraid to discuss safe sex with those you care about. Educate yourself, your family, and your lovers on how to properly use condoms, and use one every time and with every partner. Your life and their life depend on it. -- Laurie Macintosh
