Overview
Yeti Five --- 2008-03-07
Yeti Magazine number 5 with texts from Hisham Mayet; Erik Davis on P.G. Six; Mike McGonigal on Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark Was the Night, Cold was the Ground"; Scott Seward on "the marriage made in hell between folk music, dead cultures, myth & highly technical modern extreme metal"; drawings by German Surrealist Unica Zürn; an excerpt from Meredith Brosnan's new novel; an interview with Nicola Bowery about Leigh Bowery; a fiction by Kevin Sampsell; dirty AIM conversations courtesy of BloodNinja; visual art from the likes of Saul Chernick, Kevin Arrow and Kyle Field. Tracks 12-15 on the accompanying CD are curated by Jeff Mangum, from his own collection of 78s. He provides liner notes and original illustrations. Track 14 is taken from an unknown 78 [certainly [r12895335]) issued by Philips and manufactured in Holland (catalogue number/identifiers: JOB-288; BTC-10213; AA 90138.1 H; P 90213 H). The liner notes speculate that it is "clearly Asian, and likely from the 1930s", although the Philips imprint was only established in 1950 and the label shares its design with releases of that era.
