Overview

Symphony No. 5, In E Minor - Andante Cantabile --- 1924-03-00

Released on two 78-rpm records Part 3 of the Symphony issued on Victorola 6431 "[r=28657087]." Recorded April 30, 1923 at Camden Church Studio (Victor Building No. 22) Camden, NJ, USA. (originally recorded with single-sided Victor catalog numbers 74846 & 74847, but never issued in that format (along with other scheduled single-sided catalog numbers at the end of the 74000 Series as Victor began issuing double-sided releases in 1923-24). Matrix & take numbers: C-27904- 2 / C-27905- 1. Instrumentation: 7 first violins, 4 second violins, 2 cellos, 3 flutes, 2 oboes, English horn, contra bassoon, 2 clarinets, 2 cornets, 4 horns, tuba, baritone, bass clarinet, saxophone, harp, and traps. This recording is complete as issued; apparently, there was no thought of recording the entire symphony (which, of course, Stokowski did several times in subsequent years).
