Concerto In F
Overview
Concerto In F --- 1957
This performance was recorded live in the Eastman Theater in Rochester New York, May 4,1957. Only three microphones were used - left, center and right - direct to an Ampex 300-3 three-channel 1/2" tape recorder. Most, probably all Mercury stereo classical titles were recorded in three-channel stereo. The 3-track 35 mm or 3-track half-inch tape stereo masters were edited and the three channels mixed down "by means of a special electronic process developed by C. Robert Fine..." to make quarter-inch two-channel master tapes, from which most of Mercury’s records and tapes were produced. Two-track Mercury Living Presence "Seeing-Ear" Stereophonic Tape Recordings are 1:1 duplicates of a first or second generation copy of the 1/4" 2-channel master. The $12.95 list price is equivalent to nearly $150 in 2024.
