The 9 Symphonies --- undefined
1993 6-CD box set featuring the nine symphonies of Ralph Vaughan Williams, along with "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis," "Fantasia on 'Greensleeves'," Norfolk Rhapsody No. 1," and "Five Variants of 'Dives and Lazarus'," all performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Leonard Slatkin. Each CD, which is available separately but has been brought together here as a single package for convenience and/or price advantages, features a multi-page booklet with track and technical information, liner notes by Ursula Vaughan Williams, a brief uncredited biographical note on Slatkin, various photos of the composer at different stages of his life, and a complete text of the applicable works on the interior pages; and color front and back covers, the former featuring a series of photos of the composer at different stages of his life as described above, and the latter each featuring a single photo of the conductor, along with technical information. (The set also features a brief work entitled "Flourish for Glorious John" on CD 6, which is identified as a "premiere recording," according to the packaging.)
