Overview
Rolling In Love / My Hat's On The Side Of My Head --- 1934
Recorded in New York on May 31 of 1934. Pisani is listed with an interrogation mark behind his name on Johnson-Shirley's ADBORAF (acronym of American Dance Bands On Record & Film). Reasons for the presence of Sharples, Barth & Lookofosky's presence on this & the April 12 of 1934 session by Lopez's band for Bluebird: 1. "Henry Barth was reported as having played with both Vincent Lopez & Paul Ash, but dates have not been identified, except that it was prior to December, 1934." Henry Barth is Harry Barth, and that same info was also reported in the Paul Ash chapter (also included on Johnson-Shirley's ADBORAF with the correct name), so if that was prior to December of 1934, I think that Barth is clearly the tuba man here. 2. "Harry Lookofosky (vn) has claimed in correspondence to have been with Vincent Lopez at sometime in 1934 (exact period unknown) and is possibly one of the violinists on the above two sessions." I certainly agree that it's him. 3. "One of the musicians [listed in the personnel] is probably Winston Sharples, but it is not known what he played." Sharples played piano and occasionally bass with Lopez's group, but since at the time of Lopez's 1934 sessions for Bluebird the tuba was Harry Barth, Sharples likely played piano, and occasionally contributed some arrangements. Also, Louis Rapp is also the same person as Barry Wood.
