Bonchida
Overview
Bonchida --- 2002
Bonchida at the western edge of the Transylvanian field, north of Kolozsvar(Cluj-Napoca), a village on the Kis-Szamos, once a market town. At the end of the 18th century, 57% of the population was Romanian, 26% Hungarian and 17% Gypsies. The settlement has been mentioned as historical sources since the 13th century. At first Doboka belonged to the Kolozs County. It was a royal estate, along with the Soviet salt mines. Conventions were also held here. Its roadside location has been a disadvantage several times over and over, it has often become a prey to combat (Tartars Invasion, Transylvanian Peasent Uprising, Kuruc Wars, 1848 War of Independence). Bonchida's name coincided with the famous Bánffyak from the 14th century. Here stands the family called 'Transylvanian Versailles'." -P. Vas János
