Quintessence

Profile

Label created by [a=R. Peter Munves] and launched in 1977 by [l=Pickwick International, Inc.] Initially it was a classical music label and followed the usual Pickwick strategie to release budget releases of licensed recordings, mainly from RCA (and its Reader's Digest mail-order series) and EMI. Remastering was in the hands of selected technicians such as [a=Jack Adelman], giving this budget label a good reputation compared to the original source material. In 1982 the label was sold to [l=Intersound Inc.] It is the sister label to the UK [l=Contour Red Label] classical label and use the same series brands. See for example [l=Critic's Choice] and [l=Classics For Joy]
