US label [b]M[/b]usical [b]H[/b]eritage [b]S[/b]ociety ([b]MHS[/b]) was an American mail-order record label specializing in classical music. It was founded in New York in 1962 by Dr. [a1286800] after he left Westminster. After a small initial group of pseudonymous issues licensed from [a2872741] and [l7704], MHS began to issue large numbers of recordings licensed from [l29600]. Eventually the label issued most of the [l29600] catalogue, including discs previously issued on several US retail labels. MHS also drew on such catalogues as [l994894], [l13104], [l61479], [l28169], [l312299], Boston, [l260462], [l87732], [l117997], [l72976], [l438450], [l21873], [l250647], [l136260], Unicorn, [l44915], [l103093] and [l19369]. From the first year, the firm also made a smaller number of its own recordings in New York. The label was purchased by [l836233] in July of 2011.
