On The Fiddle Recordings

Profile

On The Fiddle was set up by Brighton band, Levellers in the early 1990s to distribute music to their growing legion of fans. Once signed to China records, the label went into hibernation, with only the occasional releases to fan club members. After Warner Music bought China Records in 2000, the final album of the deal, Hello Pig was not to the liking of their new label and the two parted company. The band resurrected On The Fiddle Recordings, releasing ‘Green Blade Rising’ and ‘Truth & Lies’. The live album and DVD ‘Chaos Theory’ followed and in 2008, achieved their first Top 30 album in ten years with ‘Letters From The Underground’. ‘Static On The Airwaves’ (2012); ‘Greatest Hits’ (2014) and documentary, A Curious Life’ (2015) all charted in the official Top 30. While the John Leckie produced 'We The Collective' continued this success, peaking at Number 12, their 2020 album ‘Peace’ eclipsed them all by entering the UK album chart at number 8 - the Levellers’ highest placing since 1997s ‘Mouth To Mouth’. As the Coronavirus pandemic rolled on, unable to tour, the band reconvened in their own Metway Studio to film and record The Lockdown Sessions - releasing each track upon completion, the album was released in December 2021 on three different coloured vinyl LPs and a DVD
