RTC

Profile

New Zealand label. Its parent company [l=RTC NZ Ltd.] licensed products from [l=Virgin], and other US & UK independents, including [l=Rough Trade], [l=Beggars Banquet] and [l=Factory]. RTC stood for Record And Tape Corporation, and it was founded in 1976 by [a=Brian Pitts (2)], Warwick Woodward and [a=John McCready (2)] (later Managing Director of CBS NZ and CBS Australia). The company absorbed the earlier [l=Boom Boom Music Ltd.] and took over that company's record and tape marketing business. McCready and Woodward sold their shares to Pitts in late 1977. In October 1983 RTC NZ Ltd. was purchased by [l=Virgin Records NZ Ltd.] and Pitts owned 25% of the new operation.
