Polyphon Musik

Profile

Polyphon Musik was a record label established in 1913 by German company Polyphon Musikwerke A.G. (renamed in 1917 to [l=Polyphonwerke A.-G.]). During the 1920's the label was used in more than 30 markets by the company and it's international subsidiaries. When Polyphonwerke A.-G. in 1932 changed name to [l=Deutsche Grammophon-Aktiengesellschaft] the label was phased out in most markets and used exclusively by Danish [l=Nordisk Polyphon Aktieselskab] on Scandinavian releases. In the 1950's when it was eventually replaced by [l=NPA]. Notes: - Polyphon Musik often appears in combination with [l=Polyphon]. In that case add both as labels on the release. - Polyphon Musik has sister label [l=Polyphon Musique] with an almost similar design for the French language markets. - On many shellacs the unique Order No. printed on both sides is the actual catalog number, while the two Catalogue No.'s are internal matrix numbers and should be indicated as such. Example: [r=10778820].
