Kol Israel

Profile

Kol Israel (a/k/a The Voice of Israel or Israel Radio) was the Israeli national public radio service. It opened on May 14, 1948 and in its early years operated stations in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa. It became part of the [l=Israel Broadcasting Service] (IBS) in 1951 and the later [l=Israel Broadcasting Authority] (IBA) in 1965. The name was changed to Shidurei Israel (Israel Broadcasting) in 1973 and back to Kol Israel in 1979. Later on they operated nine radio networks with distinct programming and an international shortwave service. Kol Israel ceased broadcasting as part of the closure of the IBA on May 14, 2017. It was replaced by Kan, part of the new Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation, on May 15, 2017 and Kan now operates nine domestic Israeli radio stations. On Discogs Kol Israel can serve as a record company and, on occasion, as a label for releases of material originally produced by and broadcast on the radio station. It should only be used as a label if there is a clear, prominent Kol Israel logo. The names Israel Radio and Voice Of Israel are simply language based differences and should be entered here and not on separate profiles. Credits for various performing groups (i.e.: [a=The Kol Israel Orchestra]) should be credited to the group and not to the station. Various studios operated by Kol Israel or the parent broadcasting companies also have their own entries on Discogs. Hebrew: קול ישראל
