United Artist (2)

Profile

United Artist Records in Hollywood "was whipped together" from a variety of smaller record firms, including Hucksters, Rhapsody, Excelsior, Eagle, Minor, Hits, Urban, and Bell (Billboard, Jun. 19, 1948, p. 15). In the fall of 1947, the firm also absorbed bankrupt [l=Enterprise Record] (Billboard, Nov. 8, 1947, p. 36). As soon as May 1948, however, the label was in financial trouble itself and forced to sell all its holdings to satisfy creditors (cf. announcement in Billboard, May 15, 1948, p. 34). Please do not confuse this label with [l4898]. They started 10 years later in 1958.
