[a=Chris Blackwell] started this UK branch of [l=Sue Records Inc.] (US) to license material by West Indian artists for release in the UK. Under the management of [a=Guy Stevens], the label broke its agreement with the US company (the [l=Sue Records (3)] credit on labels was blackened at one point), and started signing and releasing R&B artists licensed from other labels, as well as some of its own signings. Most of these records will mention [l=Island Records Ltd.] as a distributor and will have Island's cat# scheme.
